A Song full of delights, Kilbey's soothing and transcendant voice and lyrics coupled with Gareth Koch's dreamy and hypnotizing guitar playing. Lost at Sea follows on the back of the duo's first single release from April, "Broken Toys". Lyrics by Kilbey, music by Gareth Koch.

PRESS:

Interview with Gareth Koch - The Strange Brew (UK) - Read - "...The idea was to write a soulful ballad filled with ocean and journey references. Musically it harks back to a tuneful and almost Italian style of writing. The harmony owes a little to J.S. Bach’s ‘Sheep May Safely Graze’, as does of course Procol Harum’s ‘Lighter Shade of Pale."

Story in The Big Takeover - July 15, 2019 - Read - "“I’m just a guy holding the pen” is the poignant opening line of the recent Steve Kilbey & Gareth Koch collaboration “Lost at Sea”. The single releases on July 5th via MGM and The Big Takeover is thrilled to host its U.S. premiere.

The song lyrics statement seems innocent enough at first glance, yet it elegantly addresses the mystery of creativity. How does art come into being, and is the creator just a filter or medium for the creative process?"

Lyrics

i’m just a guy holding the pen but this fair city brings down the song that i’m singing to you and all i am is just a pair of eyes the whole world is watching through me trying to get to me

there’s a voyage into solitude there’s no escape from yourself celebrate every day you’re not dislocated or amalgamated into the past

jazz my stolen heart cold and golden hold my stars in your hand

i’m just a fool under a stupid moon but this river rushes onwards into the dawn i’m just a voice you hear sometimes when you’re contemplating after you’re gone before you were born

when you’re lost at sea all alone when you’re roaming in no-man’s land thank the universe no fate could be worse you pray to god to understand

jazz my stolen heart cold and golden hold my star in your hand ...ahh

Steve Kilbey Gareth Koch - Broken Toys - Album cover
Steve Kilbey and Gareth Koch have teamed up to make some new music together

What happens when the musical paths of an Australian music symbol and a traditionally prepared ARIA Award victor impact? Steve Kilbey and Gareth Koch intend to address that question with their new coordinated effort, Broken Toys.

Released April 12th, 2019, the soon after released music video for the track demonstrates a variety of sparkling visuals and POV film which supplements the mind blowing sound Kilbey and Koch have made.

Among the sounds that can be heard in the ground-breaking single are percussion by Barton Price (of Models acclaim), traditional and 12-string guitars, Dobros, and a 1966 'Beatle Bass'.

Broken Toys may be the first music of more to be produced by the duo. Be on the lookout for more of their collaborative efforts.
